Nursing is a noble and humbling profession. When you are a nurse you learn how to care for others more than you care for yourself. It is with this profession that you get to see people at their weakest moments. If you are a nurse, it is only imperative that you do your best while working this is because you are not dealing with toys but you are dealing with lives. Moreover, if you are a nurse you do not just stop at caring for your patients, you also become their advocate. Sometimes patients cannot understand what the doctors are telling them it is your duty to explain everything to them in a simple way.
If you are a nurse, you might find yourself asking how to be efficient in your work. Well, here are some tips for you.
1. It is imperative that you maintain a professional relationship with your patients. A professional relationship can help keep your patients from taking advantage of you one way or another.
2. Documentation is important. Whatever you do especially if, it involves patient care, do not forget to document it in the patientís chart.
3. Always remember, do no harm.
4. Listen to your patients. There are times when you do not have to say anything. Sometimes your patients only need someone to listen to them.
5. Always follow doctors' orders. It is okay to provide nursing intervention as long as it is within the scope of your profession. However, when it goes beyond that you need to consult the attending physician.
6. Nursing is not about you, it is about your patient.
7. You are your patient's voice. Be your patient's advocate.
Caring for the sick is not an easy task. There might come a time when you want to give up and simply walk away. However, before you do that think about your patients and ask yourself if you can turn your back on them as a nurse.
